How Our Bracelets Are Engraved: Inside the Personalisation Process

Here's exactly how it works, and why an engraved piece behaves differently from a printed or stamped one.

Discreet or Bold: Where the Engraving Sits

The first decision isn't what to engrave — it's where.

Inside the clasp. Hidden against the wrist, visible only to you and only when you take it off. This is the choice most customers make for something private: a date, initials, a few words meant for one person.

On the outside. Visible as you wear it, for a bolder look. This suits a single word, a set of initials, or Roman numerals — something designed to be read.

Neither is more "correct". A private message belongs inside; a statement belongs outside.

Character Limits Vary by Piece

Engraving space depends entirely on the piece. A wide cuff has a long, uninterrupted face. A slim clasp has a fraction of that room.

Because of this, character limits differ from product to product, and the limit for each piece is shown on its own product page. It's worth checking before you settle on wording — a date in Roman numerals or a set of initials will fit almost anything, while a full sentence often won't.

Step 1: Preparing Your Design

Once your order comes through, we review the engraving for clarity and accuracy, then set the font size and positioning so it sits correctly on that specific piece. Every design is spaced to the piece it's going on rather than dropped onto a template.

Step 2: Laser Engraving

Engraving is done in our London workshop using a high-powered laser.

This is the part that matters most, and it's where laser engraving differs fundamentally from cheaper personalisation. The laser doesn't print onto the surface or press into it — it removes layers of the metal itself, etching down into the titanium or stainless steel.

The consequence is simple: the engraving is permanent and cannot rub off. There's no coating to wear through, no ink to fade, nothing sitting on top of the metal that daily wear can strip away. The mark is part of the piece.

Each piece is positioned and checked by hand before the laser runs. Automation handles the cut; a person handles the alignment, because a millimetre out on a clasp is visible for the life of the bracelet.

Step 3: Quality Inspection

After engraving, every piece is inspected. We check the engraving for clarity, depth and alignment, and polish the clasp to remove any micro-debris left by the process.

This step is why engraved orders take slightly longer than plain ones, and why we won't rush it. A mis-struck initial can't be undone — the metal has already been removed.

Step 4: Packaging

Once it passes inspection, your engraved bracelet is packed in our branded gift box with a pouch, polishing cloth and care booklet — ready to give, or to keep.

Getting the Aesthetic Right

The settings behind each engraving have been refined over years: depth, speed, spacing and font weight, tuned per material so the result reads cleanly rather than looking machine-cut.

Too shallow and an engraving disappears against brushed metal. Too deep and the edges look ragged under close inspection. The version we've settled on is legible, clean, and holds its appearance for the lifetime of the piece.
