Bead diameter is the decision. 6mm sits closest to a chain in presence and is the easiest first pearl. 8mm is the standard and the most-bought. 10mm is unmistakably a pearl necklace, and reads as a deliberate style choice rather than an accessory.

Shell pearl rather than freshwater: cut from mollusc shell and polished, which gives even colour, consistent sizing and a lustre that doesn't dull. It's also considerably tougher than a natural pearl, which matters for something worn against a collar every day.

The clasp and signature bead are 316L stainless steel or 18K gold-plated steel, so the hardware won't tarnish where it meets the pearl.
